Thomas Ankersmit estará na EA em parceria com Serralves

No âmbito da parceria com Serralves, Thomas Ankersmit irá orientar um workshop sobre música electrónica em sintetizadores modulares na EA no dia 8 de Janeiro das 15h às 19h, direcionada aos alunos de mestrado em Design de Som e do Doutoramento Ciência, Tecnologia e Arte. O músico e artista sonoro irá também apresentar em estreia nacional no dia 10 de janeiro em Serralves a peça Perceptual Geographies para sintetizador Serge Modular, inspirada por e dedicada a Amacher, no âmbito do programa Additional Tones: A Tribute to Maryanne Amacher.
 
Este programa conta ainda com a estreia nacional do filme Sisters With Transistors, um seminário e sessão de audição orientados pelos investigadores Amy Cimini e Bill Dietz, a interpretação da composição para dois pianos Petra pelo duo inédito de pianistas constituído pela histórica Marianne Schroeder e a jovem portuguesa Joana Gama.
 
 
NOTA BIOGRÁFICA
Thomas Ankersmit é um músico e artista sonora que mora e trabalha em Berlim. Ele toca o sintetizador Serge Modular, ao vivo e em estúdio, e colabora com artistas como Phill Niblock and Valerio Tricoli. Os seus discos já foram lançados por editoras como a Shelter Press, a PAN e a Touch. A sua música combina intrincados detalhes sónicos e poder elétrico cru, criando uma experiência física e espacial do som. Fenómenos acústicos tais como infrasons e emissões otoacústicas (sons emanando do interior da cabeça, gerados pelos próprios ouvidos) têm um papel importante no seu trabalho, ao lado de um uso incorreto deliberado e criativo. O seu trabalho já foi apresentado em instituições como o Museu de Serralves, o Museo Reina Sofia, o MoMA PS1, a Tate Modern, o Stedelijk Museum, o Hamburger Bahnhof e em festivais por todo o mundo. Ankersmit já foi leitor em universidadescomo Harvard, Columbia, Stanford e Goldsmiths.

In the context of a partnership with Serralves, Thomas Ankersmit will present a workshop on electronic music on modular synthesizers in the SoA on the 8th of January from 15h to 19h, directed to the students of the Master Degree on Sound Design and the PhD on Science, Technology and Art.

This workshop is part of the programme Additional Tones: A Tribute to Maryanne Amacher, that includes the screening of the documentary film Sisters With Transistors, a seminar and listening session dedicated to Amachers’s series of works Music for Sound Joined Rooms and Mini Sound Series led by researchers Amy Cimini and Bill Dietz, the interpretation of the composition for two pianos Petra by the unprecedented duo of pianists composed by an historical name - Marianne Schroeder - and the young Portuguese musician Joana Gama, and the presentation in yet another national premiere: Thomas Ankersmit's Perceptual Geographies for Serge Modular synthesizer, a piece inspired by and dedicated to Amacher.
 

BIO NOTE
Thomas Ankersmit is a musician and sound artist based in Berlin. He plays the Serge Modular synthesizer, both live and in the studio, and collaborates with artists like Phill Niblock and Valerio Tricoli. His music is released on the Shelter Press, PAN, and Touch labels, and combines intricate sonic detail and raw electric power, with a very physical and spatial experience of sound. Acoustic phenomena such as infrasound and otoacoustic emissions (sounds emanating from inside the head, generated by the ears themselves) play an important role in his work, as does a deliberate, creative misuse of the equipment. His work has been presented at institutions like Museu Serralves, Museo Reina Sofia, MoMA PS1, Tate Modern, Stedelijk Museum, Hamburger Bahnhof and at festivals worldwide. He’s lectured at universities like Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, and Goldsmiths.
