Da música em rede à interação comportamental


Esta conversa apresenta o desenvolvimento e os desafios realizados pela prática da performance musical colaborativa na Internet. O advento da Tecnologia da Música em Rede (Networked Music Technology) na primeira década do século XXI proporcionou uma oportunidade de investigação de ponta, evoluindo em diferentes direções e promovendo novas tendências. Entre os recentes desenvolvimentos provenientes desta área, destaca-se o conceito de aplicação de Métodos de Interacção Comportamental (Behavior Driven Interaction Methods) para Sistemas de Música Digital, proporcionando um novo paradigma para o design de instrumentos digitais e acústicos, bem como novas formas de expressão musical.

From Networked Music to Behavior Driven Interaction
 
This presentation introduces the development and challenges presented by the practice of collaborative music performance over the Internet. The advent of Networked Music Technology in the first decade of the XXI century provided the opportunity for cutting edge research, evolving in different directions and promoting new trends. Amongst the many different new developments coming from this area, the concept of applying Behavior Driven Interaction Methods to Digital Music Systems, stands out by providing a new paradigm for digital and acoustic instrument design as well as new forms of musical expression.

Álvaro Barbosa is a Full-Professor of Communication and Media and Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Outreach at the University of Saint Joseph. Prior to this position, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Creative Industries at USJ and as Head of the Sound and Image Department of the School of Arts at the Catholic University of Portuga, where he co-founded in 2004 the Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts, in 2009 the Creative Business Incubator ARTSpin and in 2011 the Digital Creativity Center.
Prof. Barbosa's academic research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, collaborating with a large number of renowned international researchers. In addition, he was the founding editor of the Journal for Science and Technology of the Arts - CITAR Journal, and regularly collaborates in scientific committees of prestigious international Journals and Conferences.
As an Experimental Media Artist, Prof. Barbosa also produced, presented and performed various projects worldwide, featuring creative work in Electronic and Acoustic Music, Interactive Art Installations, Photography, Sound Design, Computer Animation and Audiovisual Media Production. In recent years, his Academic focus, has been in fostering Systematic Creativity and Design Thinking as essential processes applied to Innovation and Entrepreneurship, by mentoring start-ups, supervising and teaching at USJ, as well as a guest Professor in numerous International Universities, lecturing in Design, Cultural Studies, Media Communication and MBA programs.
